Year 4 - Day 7 - Juno to Fort Lauderdale FL
Windy, can you say wind! If I was at home and walked outside my door, I would have turned around and walked back in to have another cup of coffee! But…
We departed normal time, but it seemed to be much less humid this morning. That lasted about an hour and then …
Actually the wind was not too bad, but then we turned directly east, crossed a drawbridge, then it hit us directly in the face!
As the day progressed and we turned corners, the wind was not too bad. Every once in a while, a building would deflect the wind and it would hit us straight on in the face, almost stopping our forward progress. Down shift at least one, maybe two gears, then proceed. And as quick as it hit us, it would disappear.
Several photos of Riviera Beach and the port at that location.
Several photos of the Flagler Hotel and the surrounding area from Flagler Road.
We left the mainland and headed toward A1A. I was completely unaware of where we were and all of a sudden there were police cars along the road, shoulders of the road blocked off, mobile scissor lift observation decks, etc.. along the highway. As I exited the bridge, a lady in a suit was walking across the street speaking on a cell phone. All of a sudden it it me that we were passing Mar-A-Lago, yup the summer home of our president elect, Donald Trump. I was not sure if she was intending on stopping me, but I stopped short of her and she retreated back from whence she came. We passed without incident, thankfully!
We spent may hours riding down A1A, large condos and apartments on each side. Almost no open space on either side of the road. Lots of high end vehicles noted, Bentleys, Mercedes, Audis, Aston Martins, Maseratis, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Jaguars, Land Rovers, Porsches, Corvettes, Teslas, Lexus, and an occasional Honda!
We encountered another drawbridge on our way back from Subway along Route 1, apparently a normal frequent occurrence in this area!
After a couple more hours of riding, it started to rain. I pulled into a strip mall in order for us to cover our electronics. Looking at the sky, we noted clear sky beyond the rain clouds, so we decided to just take a well needed break and wait out the storm. Sure enough, in about 10 minutes, the run was over as well as our conversation with a local about bike riding, and we proceeded along our way.
We were stopped at a light and I noted the unusual architecture of the building so decided to snap a photo.
Today’s ride was 66.6 miles, with an elevation gain of 1,333 feet. Total for year 4 trip, 438.8 miles, with election gain total of 7,066 feet. Most of the elevation gain is due to bridges.
The total for the ECG is now 2,920.8 miles and 82,697 feet in elevation gain/climbing.

Well done, riders! Now the fun should really begin!
