Year 4 - Day 4 - Deltona to Cocoa FL

Windy, that is the word for today, Windy all day. It seems no matter where we turned or rode, we were riding into the wind. We crossed the street from the hotel and were on the first trail, the Spring to Spring Trail.

A story board along the rail trail explaining how important the black population was to the railroad.

This trail is connected to the East Central Rail Trail. We continued on this trail for many miles, 25 to 30 until we entered Titusville. These trails make up the Coast to Coast Trail system in Florida. See the Florida Trail map that is posted at the trailheads and the obverse which shows the trail in Volusia County Florida.

When we got into Titusville, we intended to eat lunch. We asked some folks, that had parked in the central parking area in town and were walking toward downtown, where would be a good place to get a burger in town. It was suggested that we go to Burger Rob’s. It did not disappoint! Gary had a hot dog that had to be a foot long, I had a smash burger (all burgers are smash burgers) with fried onions, and Bob had the veggie ranch burger.  We were all very pleased with our meals.

In fact it seemed like all the local law enforcement agencies were represented in the joint, local police, county sheriff deputies, and even a wildlife conservation officer were patronizing the establishment!

Along the trail we often see artwork prepared by local residents. I guess we were not in Kansas anymore by the artwork we saw!

We also saw some additional wildlife along the trail into Titusville, the grandparent, the parents, and the young-in’s!

The Greenway route took us along the Indian River, the waterway between the barrier islands and the inland. several photos from along this very scenic road on our way into Cocoa.

A very interesting phenomena occurs with Ride with GPS, the app we use to plan the route and also record our trips. When you enter a building, the app keeps trying to find you! This is the map it drew when trying to find me in the building while I was eating lunch!

Based on this map, I rode an extra couple miles today! So I defaulted to the route mileage for today. Today’s ride was 61.4 miles with an elevation gain of 706 feet. for the Year 4, we have now ridden 234 miles and climbed 3,846 feet of elevation gain.

Total for our ECG trip, 2,716 miles and 79,477 feet of elevation gain.
