Year 3 - Day 8 Georgetown SC to Mt Pleasant (Charlestown) SC

What a beautiful day today. Temps started in the mid-50’s and progressed to the mid to upper 60’s. We again played hopscotch with Route 17, but today most of the Route 17 had enough shoulder that we rode in that area.

There were several segments where we were on desolate back roads. That was really enjoyable. We are seeing much more Spanish moss hanging from the old oak trees! It is so pretty.

As we rode out Georgetown, we passed the Georgetown Steel Mill. According to the website, the mill closed briefly in 2003, but reopened in 2005, because of the company’s commitment to the area and its economic wellness.

Also in Georgetown has a very large International Paper mill. I stopped on the bridge out of Georgetown to snap several photos of the mill.

A little further up the bridge, I again stopped to snap a few photos of the river. I am not sure what is happening here, but there is a large barge process going on and also a substantial boat ramp/launch.

About 25 miles from our destination for today, we popped back out to Route 17. It was a little after 12 noon, we were all hungry, and needed a rest stop. Across Route 17 as this seemly run down restaurant called SeeWee Restaurant. As it was the only game in town, we decided to check it out! Here are photos of the outside! Most everyone would have kept driving by!

But let me tell you, if you are ever in the area, stop in and check this gem out! Here are some photos of the interior and a few more of the outside dining area. Oh by the way, those red doors, those are the outside rest rooms! Be sure what you are going to do in there cause there ain’t enough space in there to change your mind!

I did see one “husband” go in and check the place out before his “wife” would go in!

Biggest climb of the day! Isle of Palms Connector bridge!

Today we rode 76.3 miles, climbed 732 feet, most of which was climbing the Isle of Palms Connector Bridge, see the blip near the end.

For this years ride, our total mileage is 498.9, climbing is 10,087 feet gained.

For the total ECG, 2,113.7 miles and 71,511 feet of elevation increase.
