Year 3 - Day 13 Brunswick G to Yulee FL
We departed the hotel at our normal 8 a.m. It was about 60 degrees and was getting warmer quickly. We toured downtown Brunswick as we left the area. In the distance, we could see the Sidney Lanier Bridge across the Turtle River.
We again played leap frog with Route 17 most of the day. We popped back out to Route 17 just north of the Satilla River. Crossed the bridge into Woodbine GA. Our GPS instructions suggested a left turn to connect us with a short trail. We elected to proceed through Woodbine in search of a lunch spot. We were almost through Woodbine and stopped at a gas station/mini market where there was a pizza sign. We were not real keen on eating out on the sidewalk, so we consulted Google. Google said that there was a smoke house restaurant called Captain Stans very nearby. As I looked in the direction toward where the restaurant should be, I did see a pillar of smoke rising from a cooker behind a very dilapidated building! So we crossed the street to see this!
Not your normal restaurant from the external appearance. Let me tell you, this place is a hidden gem. We had a great lunch bar-b-que meal complete with sweet tea! The inside is even more eclectic than the outside!
Prices were reasonable, food was great, atmosphere was outstanding. If you are ever in this area, stop here!
Right next to our hotel, through the dense brush, but a short walk on the sidewalk, is another gem of a restaurant called Bob’s Famous BBQ. We thought we would give it a try as it is close and we were hungry. This place is also a hidden gem! It is all take out and while we were waiting for our food, there was a steady stream of people ordering and picking up!
This bridge was our largest climb today. It tops out at about 160 feet! Below are some photos from the bridge. You can see forever from up there as everything is flat!
As we continued down Route 17, we passed the shipping terminal area. It was loaded with rows and rows of new cars. There is a rail line with rows of automobile train cars all lined up either to fill or to be hauled away.
I was bringing up the end of the line because I was stopping frequently to snap photos. As I rounded the corner of the road, I expected to see my friends off in the distance. The road was empty! I guess they stopped for a nature break, but wait, there is Dan sitting on the ground with his bike and bags spread about! First flat of the trip!

With about 10 miles to go to Yulee FL, or at least to our hotel, we crossed the St, Mary's River, which is the Florida Georgia border. The bridge is a steel structure painted bright blue and is of course a metal grate bridge.
Of course we stopped for the obligatory photo! Our last one!

Today we rode 75.1 miles and climbed 808 feet. Our total trip so far is now 807.5 mile and 13,327 feet of climbing.
Our ECG totals are now 2,422.5 miles and 74,751 feet of climbing.
