Year 3 - Day 12 Richmond Hill GA to Brunswick GA
We started about on our scheduled time of 8 a.m. this morning. Just before we left, I asked for one more minute for another potty stop! Weather was clear and about 65 degrees.
Later in the day we crossed into Butler Island. This area was owned by the Butler family who raised rice using a very large contingent of slaves. You can read the historical markers. The photos show the remains of the steam operated rice mill.
We again leap frogged down Route 17. After Route 17 departed from GA 25, it seems to be a whole lot less traffic. We actually enjoyed most of our ride down Route 17 today! Several short diversions from Route 17 both before and after lunch. We stopped in Townsend GA at Altman’s restaurant for lunch and enjoyed a bowl of Brunswick Stew! Ironically we are headed for Brunswick GA!
I happened to take a photo of a couple water towers along the way. Midway and Riceboro!

The ECG routed us off Route 17/GA 25. We have also been playing leap frog with I-95. We crossed back over I-95 (to the west side) to get to our hotel.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were given Room 417. Upon getting to the room, we discovered that the maintenance person was still in the process of changing out the PTAC unit (ac unit). When I went to the front desk to explain, the maintenance tech said he would be done in a few minutes We agreed to wait and camped out in the hall to wait!
Today’s ride was shorter than the past two days. Only 71.4 miles and a minimal amount of climbing, 561 feet. For this year’s ride, 732.4 miles so far and 12,519 feet of climbing.
