Year 1 - Boston MA to Bangor ME

We arrived in Boston yesterday evening around 6:20 p.m. We gathered our gear and got ready to ride the 2 miles to our hotel. We used Google maps to get us to our destination. Even though we selected bicycle routing, it directed us on some busy roads that were not for the faint of heart bicycle rider! We made it safely and were able to enjoy a relaxing dinner outside at the hotel restaurant amid the busy streets of south Boston! The beer was cold and the food tasty!

We left the hotel this morning around 7:15 a.m. Pedaled our way down Washington St toward the terminal. We enjoyed a nice leisurely ride in the bus lane and bicycle lane that delivered us to the bus terminal. Two elevator rides later we are on the third floor of the terminal. Who knew that you would catch a bus on the third floor. We thought the only Air Busses were in France! There were about 8 people waiting to board the bus. We positioned ourselves at the rear of the line. The bus driver, Mark, was checking passengers in and loading their minimal luggage. The look on his face when he saw 3 people with bicycles was priceless! Almost one of “WTF” where are we going to put three bikes! Luckily, there was adequate room for three, but I am not sure we could have wedged another one in there. The bus line does not guarantee the ability to carry bikes. The rules are “bikes will be loaded after all other passengers luggage,” but we made it!

We are on our way to Bangor! Only one more public transportation step after this.
