Year 1 - Ride Day 8 - Danvers (Peabody) MA to Provincetown MA - Sept 8

One of the interesting people we saw going to Provincetown! Pilgrim Tower Provincetown Brewing Co rest room door? We did not rush out of the hotel this morning as we figured we had about 3 hours of riding, about 35 miles, to get to the Boston Harbor and the Provincetown Fast Ferry. So about 8:30 we sauntered out of the hotel and began our ride to Boston.  This was the day of detours and construction. We had two road closures where we had to determine alternative routing to stay on course. Both were relatively easy to accomplish and we were back on track in no time! But it all takes extra time! The third detour was a closed trail. We easily diverted and were soon back on our preprogrammed route.  All along the trail there was construction. The trail is being significantly improved. Many dollars are being spent to make this trail superior. It just so happened that is was happening while we were traveling the trail. The approaches on both sides of crossing roads were dug out so t...

Year 1 - Ride Day 7 - Portsmouth NH to Danvers (Peabody) MA - Sept 7

Dan felt pretty good this morning considering the spill he took yesterday  I helped bandage him up for today’s ride. He said he was okay to continue, so off we went! Our plan today was to stop at the USS Albacore Submarine Museum. It was only a couple miles from our hotel. The Albacore was a diesel boat used by the Navy to test different equipment designs. It did not even have any torpedo tubes! Several designs tried by this sub were the X fin design, the twin propeller, and the tear drop hull. It is a self-paced tour with audio stations throughout.  It was great to have Dan along as he served in the Navy aboard diesel boats such as this. He would fill in all the blanks as we went through the tour. It is hard to believe that 50 men staffed this boat. There were 5 officers and the rest enlisted seamen.  Much of the day was spent riding immediately next to the beach. The roads were wide with adequate shoulders such that we could ride in relative comfort along with the vehic...

View from dinner restaurant  Kennebunkport  Kennebunkport  Kennebunkport  Stork Farm! Small shacks nears beach towns Kennebunkport  I’ve lost some weight! View from dinner restaurant  It was warmer leaving Portland today than the past several days. Temps were in the upper 60’s. We hugged the coast as we went through the small coastal towns such as Old Orchard Beach, Biddeford, Fortunes Rocks, and Cape Porpoise.  Our route took us right through Kennebunkport. Kennebunkport and Kennebunk were very busy with both vehicles (it’s the only inlet crossing for that area) and pedestrians. The streets are lined with quaint little touristy shops where you can buy soon forgotten trinkets to remember your trip!  We ate a light lunch while viewing the marina. There was a large (large by my landlubber standards) sailboat in the marina directly across from the restaurant. It had two main sail mast poles that looked like PPL power poles! Huge! We continued along t...
